
CHARLESTON, W.Va. --- The Tusculum men's volleyball team saw its seven-match win streak come to an end at the hands of Charleston on Friday (Mar. 14) night.
The Pioneers (11-9) fell to the Golden Eagles (8-10) by scores of 31-29, 25-20, 25-22.
Max Nissen landed 18 kills on a .517 hitting percentage while Xander Bomert tallied 15 kills on a .414 clip to head up the Charleston attack. Paul Stommel dished out 40 assists as Felipe Mendes led the Golden Eagles with a pair of service aces and six digs. Both Bomert and Nissen were credited with two solo blocks.
Deklan Wingo finished with 16 kills on a .344 rate, ahead of nine kills by Aiden Roper. Morgan Makovec was 6-for-8, followed by Joel Dubinsky (5), and Caleb Hammann (1). Kevin Blankenship recorded 30 assists, while both Wingo and Makovec landed a pair of aces. Defensively, Dubinsky collected a team-best six digs and Wingo was credited with two solo rejections.
Charleston hit .358 as a team with 48 kills and 14 errors on 95 total attempts. Tusculum hit .216 with 37 kills, 18 errors, and 88 total attacks. The Golden Eagles led the match in assists (44-35), digs (30-25), and total blocks (6-5), while the Pioneers landed more service aces (5-4).
Tusculum finishes out the two-match stint at Charleston on Saturday (Mar. 15) with a 2 p.m. first serve.
