Pioneers fall to Saints on Friday

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University men's volleyball suffered a loss in its first match of the weekend to Maryville on Friday (Mar. 1) night.

The Pioneers (4-10, 1-2 IVA) dropped their first match to the Saints (14-3, 2-0 IVA) by scores of 25-19, 25-22, 25-19.

Luke Kraft led Maryville with 12 kills on 18 swings. Cameron Chambers dished out 33 assists, while Kraft (2) and David Fleischer (1) landed the service aces. Kraft also finished with a match-high six digs. Jacob Fischer had a hand in three blocks at the net.

Deklan Wingo tallied 14 kills on a .346 average, followed by Colby Landry's 10 strikes. Rounding out the scoring were Morgan Makovec (4), Jaden Bramhall (2), Tristan Blake (2), Cameron Reeder (1), and Shane O'Neal (1). Blake also distributed 29 assists, while he and Reeder contributed the aces. Defensively, Taylor West, Blake, and Reeder all notched three digs. Both Makovec and Bramhall were credited with solo blocks.

Maryville hit .394 as a team with 40 kills and 12 errors on 71 total attempts. Tusculum hit .241 with 34 kills, 15 errors, and 79 total attacks. The Saints led the Pioneers in assists (37-33), service aces (3-2), digs (22-16), and total blocks (6-2).

Tusculum continues its weekend with Maryville on Saturday (Mar. 2), with first serve at 2 p.m.
