HONOLULU, HAWAII --- The Tusculum men's volleyball team faced yet another nationally-ranked team this season, taking on powerhouse No. 3 Hawai'i on Friday (Feb. 2) night.
The Pioneers (1-7) were swept by the Rainbow Warriors (7-1) by scores of 25-11, 25-16, 25-17.
Alakai Todd finished with 13 kills on 17 attempts for a .765 hitting percentage. Tread Rosenthal dished out 23 assists, while Keoni Thiim landed seven service aces for Hawai'i. Kevin Kauling scooped up a match-high five digs. Both Kurt Nusterer and Rosenthal were credited with three total blocks at the net.
Deklan Wingo continued his hot start to the season, recording 11 kills on a .308 clip. Rounding out the scoring were Colby Landry (5), Morgan Makovec (3), Tristan Blake (3), Jaden Bramhall (2), and Jabes de la Cruz (1). Blake was a perfect 3-for-3 on attempts as well. Blake also contributed 20 assists, while Makovec landed a pair of aces. Landry finished with a team-best three digs.
Hawai'i hit .586 as a team with 39 kills and five errors on 58 total attempts. Tusculum hit .147 with 25 kills, 15 errors, and 68 total attacks. The Warriors led the Pioneers in assists (35-23), service aces (10-3), digs (24-12), and total blocks (7-0).
Tusculum will have its rematch with the No. 3 Warriors on Sunday (Feb. 4). First serve is scheduled for 10 p.m. EST (5 p.m. HT).
