GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University men's volleyball freshmen duo Morgan Makovec and Kevin Blankenship swept the Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (IVA) Player of the Week honors.
Earning the offensive honor, Makovec averaged two kills per set on a .448 hitting percentage from his middle blocker position. The Virginia Beach, Virginia native landed an impressive 11 kills in the first match at nationally-ranked Ball State, while going 6-for-8 on swings in his collegiate indoor debut. On the week, Makovec totaled 18 kills, two digs, and six total blocks (one solo, five assists).
Claiming the defensive laurel, Blankenship averaged 1.89 digs and .78 blocks per set as a right side hitter. The Franklin, Tennessee product notched six digs apiece in his first two matches, including at No. 13 Ball State, finishing with five in the finale against the ranked Cardinals. Blankenship was also credited with four block assists in his collegiate debut versus Erskine. On the week, he totaled 16 kills, 17 digs, and seven total blocks (one solo, six assists).
The Pioneers (0-3) are still scheduled to play at King on Thursday (Jan. 18) night, with first serve timed at 7 p.m.
