CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- The Tusculum University men's volleyball team rounded out its weekend with a rematch against Queens University of Charlotte on Saturday afternoon (Mar. 25).
The Pioneers (8-14, 1-5 IVA) were beaten by the Royals (9-12, 3-2 IVA) in four sets: 21-25, 18-25, 25-23, 25-27.
Queens had a combined 32 kills off of the hands of Matthew Pilch (18) and Jack Brinkman (14). Brian Schwob dished out 34 assists and was one of four Royals to record an ace, joined by Stirling Sims, Pilch, and Brinkman. Ananias Hayes scooped up a match-high 10 digs, one ahead of Schwob. Hayes also headed up the Queens net defense with four total blocks (one solo, three assists).
Deklan Wingo finished with a career-high 22 kills on a .349 hitting percentage. Thiago Da Silva registered 29 assists in his second collegiate match. Jake Whyte added three aces, joined by Jaden Bramhall with one. Colby Landry finished with a team-best seven digs, one more than James Ward. Jakob Svendsen notched four total blocks (two solo, two assists).
Queens hit .237 as a team with 49 kills and 22 errors on 114 total attempts. Tusculum averaged .152 with 43 kills, 24 errors, and 125 total attacks. The Royals led the match in assists (43-41) and digs, while the Pioneers had the advantage in total blocks (9.5-9). The teams tied with four service aces apiece.
Tusculum has a two-match day scheduled for Saturday (Apr. 1) at Lincoln Memorial. The Pioneers are set to face Alderson Broaddus at 11 a.m. with the match against the hosting Railsplitters listed at 2 p.m.
