SALISBURY, N.C. --- Catawba College earned the top seed in next week's South Atlantic Conference Men's Tennis Championship tournament with a 4-0 win over Tusculum University in the regular-season finale on Saturday at the Johnson Tennis Courts.
The 10th-ranked Indians (17-2, 12-0 SAC) won the doubles point and took the first three singles matches to defeat the Pioneers (8-11, 6-6 SAC), who had already clinched a spot in the tournament which begins Wednesday at the Palmetto Tennis Center in Sumter, South Carolina.
In doubles, the Indians took both completed matches by identical 6-4 scores to go up 1-0 on the Pioneers. Catawba then collected singles victories at flights one, four and five while dropping a total of 10 games in the three wins.
Tusculum is currently projected to have a rematch with Catawba in the tournament quarterfinals next Wednesday, with the official bracket to be released later this weekend once league play has concluded.
