18th-ranked Lincoln Memorial pulls out 4-2 win over Pioneers

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Lincoln Memorial University outlasted Tusculum University 4-2 in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis Tuesday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The 18th-ranked Railsplitters (14-1, 3-0 SAC) won the doubles point, but needed a tiebreaker win at flight five to put away the Pioneers (3-5, 1-2 SAC).

In doubles, the Railsplitters picked up a 6-4 win at flight two and followed up with a 6-2 victory at flight one to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

The Pioneers leveled the score at flight three as Nathan Matsuguma beat Kai Miyatake 6-1, 3-1 when Miyatake was forced to retire due to an ankle injury. Lincoln Memorial went up 3-1 in the match with straight-set wins at flights four and six.

Tusculum cut the deficit to 3-2 when Anton Krondell upset 49th-ranked Alexandru Giurea in straight sets at flight one by scores of 6-3 and 6-4. However, the Railsplitters took the victory at flight five where Sergio Aranzeta beat Miles Ray by identical scores of 7-6 (8-6).

The Pioneers will host 11th-ranked University of Indianapolis in a non-conference match on Wednesday, March 12 beginning at 1 p.m.
