17th-ranked North Georgia takes 5-2 victory over Pioneers

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The University of North Georgia defeated Tusculum University 5-2 in non-conference men's tennis Friday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The 17th-ranked Nighthawks (4-1) won two of the three doubles matches to take the team point, then captured the first four completed singles matches to lock up the win over the Pioneers (2-3).

In doubles, Tusculum's duo of Nathan Matsuguma and Angelos Avgeris earned a 6-3 win over Franco Rebora and Marcos Castellanos at flight three, but North Georgia won the final two matches to take a 1-0 lead in the contest.

North Georgia built its lead to 5-0 with four consecutive straight-set wins, but Tusculum closed the match with two victories. At flight five, Will Gee beat Lleyton Beasley 6-2, 0-6, 6-0 and at flight three Anton Krondell was a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) winner over Rebora.

The Pioneers will open their South Atlantic Conference schedule on Wednesday, March 5 at Anderson beginning at 1:30 p.m.
