AUSTIN, Texas --- Tusculum University's Nemanja Subanovic has been named to the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Academic All-America® second team as selected by the College Sports Communicators. He returns to the Academic All-America® team after garnering third team recognition last spring.
The 2024 Academic All-America® Men's Tennis teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher, must be at least a sophomore and be in lineup for 70 percent of the total matches played by the team that includes team scores.
Subanovic becomes the third repeat Academic All-America® in program history and joins Lukas Winkelmann (2013, 2014, 2015) and Jonas Winkelmann (2015, 2016) as the only Pioneers to garner this accolade two or more times during their career.
Subanovic, a senior from Subotica, Serbia, has a cumulative grade point average of 3.964 while majoring in sport management. He is a member of the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll, Dean's List, President's List, Charles Oliver Gray Honors List and the Tusculum Athletic Director's Honor Roll. He is a member of the Alpha Chi Honor Society and the College of Business Honor Society.
On the court, he is a three-time All-SAC selection where he has posted a 47-40 career singles record. He is a four-time ITA Scholar Athlete and was named to the 2023 CSC Academic All-America third team. He is a three-time recipient of the Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award.
He helped the Pioneers to a 16-7 record including 9-3 in league play to finish fourth in the conference standings and advanced to the SAC quarterfinal round.
Last month, he was named the 2024 SAC Men's Tennis Scholar Athlete of the Year, marking the eighth time a Pioneer has earned this distinction.
The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes tennis honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-2024 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs.
