HILTON HEAD, S.C. --- Tusculum University earned a 7-0 victory over Shepherd University in non-conference men's tennis Sunday afternoon at Hilton Head High School.
The 46th-ranked Pioneers (6-3) swept doubles and lost a total of eight games in singles against the Rams (0-6) to pick up their third consecutive victory.
Tusculum took the sweep in doubles as Anton Krondell and JP Knell beat Jeremy Williams and Hamilton Hall 6-0 at flight three, Nemanja Subanovic and Felipe Velasquez Quintana defeated Fabian Telschow and Curry Taylor 6-1 at flight two, and Rens Verhaar and Tijn van Gorkom outlasted Arka Ganguly and Nicholas Espinoza 7-5 at flight one.
In singles, Ivan Ivars defeated Williams 6-0, 6-2 at flight three, Will Gee beat Espinoza 6-1, 6-1 at flight two, and Krondell downed Ganguly 6-2, 6-2 at flight one. The remaining three matches all went to Tusculum by 6-0, 6-0 scores as Yuki Ikeda defeated Hall at flight four, Sarthak Sharma shut out Khalid Alsadek at flight five, and Knell blanked Jaden Sheely at flight six.
Tusculum returns to the courts on Tuesday, March 12 at 11 a.m. against West Virginia State in a match that will be played at the Van Der Meer Tennis Center in Hilton Head.
