SUMTER, S.C. --- The Tusculum University men's tennis team wrapped up play at the ITA Southeast Region Championship on Saturday at the Palmetto Tennis Center.
Overnight rain delayed the start of play by four hours, and all three Pioneers who were in the singles Round of 32 were eliminated in straight sets. Will Gee dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Gabriel Constantino of Wingate, Anton Krondell fell 6-4, 6-3 to Francisco Faria of Lee, and Rens Verhaar was beaten 6-1, 6-1 by Thomas Cardona of Columbus State.
In consolation singles, Miles Ray was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Arthur Valette of Augusta, while Yuki Ikeda was beaten by Ilian Borlee of Flagler 6-1, 6-0.
Both Tusculum doubles teams were defeated in the Round of 32 as well. Nemanja Subanovic and Marco Jalalian lost 8-3 to Makary Adamek and Philipp Lemken of Flagler, with Gee and Ray falling in a tiebreaker 9-8 (8-6) to Hugo Nossler and Luka Brown of Wingate.
The Pioneers will resume fall competition on Thursday, Oct. 5 at Milligan.
