43rd-ranked Pioneers blank Catawba 7-0

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The 43rd-ranked Tusculum University men's tennis team earned its second straight sweep on Saturday with a 7-0 victory over Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference action from the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The Pioneers (9-6, 6-2 SAC), who blanked Coker 7-0 on the road on Tuesday, did not lose a set to the Indians (3-10, 1-5 SAC) in Saturday's victory.

Tusculum swept doubles as Jacco Mensinga and Vadzim Raitsou beat Paul Dekester and Tyler Juergens 6-4 at flight one, Frank Bonacia and Kenta Kondou defeated Damir Zababuryn and Marko Sudar 6-1 at flight two, and Robin Eldin teamed with Miles Ray for a 6-2 win over Henrique Leal and Kane Elkin at flight three.

In singles play, Eldin downed Juergens 6-0, 6-1 at flight two, Marco Jalalian defeated Leal 6-0, 6-2 at flight six and Nathan Matsuguma downed Sudar 6-4, 6-3 at flight four to lock up the match for the Pioneers.

In the remaining matches, Bonacia beat Dekester 6-3, 6-2 at flight one, Kondou bested Zababuryn 6-3, 6-1 at flight three, and Ray shut out Luca Ricciardi 8-0 in a pro set at flight five.

Tusculum will be home to take on Lenoir-Rhyne in their next scheduled match, which is slated for Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex. The 25th-ranked Bears (11-5, 7-2 SAC) lost their second in a row on Saturday with a 4-3 setback at Anderson.
