GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University rallied from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Anderson University 4-3 in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action Tuesday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
The Pioneers (5-3, 3-0 SAC) won the final four singles matches, including three-set wins from Frank Bonacia and Vadzim Raitsou, to complete the comeback against the Trojans (5-3, 2-1 SAC) after Anderson won the doubles point and the first two singles matches.
Raitsou's win at flight six over Aaron Cabo ended with Raitsou up 4-1 in the third set, after the Trojans were assessed a third conduct penalty by the officials which forced a default to the match.
Trailing 3-0, the comeback began for the Pioneers as Nathan Matsuguma defeated Spencer Snow 7-5, 6-4 at flight five. Robin Eldin followed with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Julian Kenzlers at flight four to cut the Anderson lead to 3-2. Bonacia then beat Greyson Doscotch 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 at flight two to level the score at 3-3, and a conduct violation following Bonacia's match resulted in Raitsou's match with Cabo being halted in favor of Raitsou, who was up 6-1, 1-6, 4-1 at the time.
Anderson earned the doubles point by taking two of the three matches, with Tusculum picking up a 6-2 win at flight one as Nemanja Subanovic teamed with Raitsou for the victory over Doscotch and Thomas Summers. The Trojans won the deciding doubles match by a 7-6 (7-4) score at flight two to go up 1-0 on the Pioneers.
The Pioneers will travel to Wingate to face the Bulldogs on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
