Pioneers ranked fifth in NCAA Southeast Region

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- The Tusculum University men's tennis team is ranked fifth in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings, through matches of April 25.

The Pioneers (17-3) won the South Atlantic Conference Championship tournament and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA regionals with a 4-1 victory over Anderson in the finals on April 17. The title was the first for Tusculum since 2008, which was also the last time the Pioneers made an NCAA appearance. Tusculum is 16-3 against Division II opponents, which does not include wins over NAIA Milligan on Feb. 21 or Division I UNC Asheville on Feb. 25.

Columbus State (16-0) is the top-ranked team in the region and will play second-ranked Lander (12-1) for the Peach Belt Conference championship on Saturday and an automatic bid. North Georgia (10-3) is ranked third, followed by Wingate (12-2), the Pioneers, Queens (13-3) in sixth, Anderson (11-4) in seventh and Conference Carolinas champion Mount Olive (9-2) in eighth.

The rankings are the official poll utilized by the NCAA in the championship selection process. The 2021 NCAA Division Men's Tennis Southeast Region Championship will be held May 7-9 at North Georgia, with the selection show taking place on May 3. Six teams will participate in the regional, with three at-large selections joining the conference champions from the SAC, Peach Belt Conference and Conference Carolinas.
