GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University won its fourth straight match with a 5-2 victory over Carson-Newman University in a rain-delayed South Atlantic Conference men's tennis match at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
The match was started Thursday morning and Tusculum led 3-0 when early-afternoon rain left the courts unplayable. The teams returned Friday morning and the Pioneers (13-3, 8-2 SAC) finished off the Eagles (7-10, 5-6 SAC) by splitting the final four singles matches.
In doubles on Thursday, Nemanja Subanovic and Frank Bonacia teamed up for a 6-2 win at flight one over Gabriel Dabdab and Ids Waterbolk. At flight two, Dmitry Bezborodov and Leon Huck downed Marc Janse and Rintaro Oka 7-6 (7-4), while at flight three Manuel Guedes de Almeida and Jacco Mensinga beat Joshua Ott and Julian Froehlich by a 6-2 score.
In singles matches finished Thursday, Bezborodov defeated Oka 6-3, 6-1 at flight one and Bonacia beat Waterbolk 6-1, 6-3 at flight three. In matches completed on Friday, Huck defeated Dabdab 6-3, 6-4 at flight four, and Vadzim Raitsou earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at flight six over Ott.
The Pioneers will conclude their regular season on Sunday, April 11 with a 2 p.m. match at Lenoir-Rhyne. The Bears (9-5, 9-2 SAC) are a half-game ahead of the Pioneers for third place in the conference standings.
