Pioneers defeat Young Harris 5-2 for fifth straight win

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University won its fifth straight match as four singles victories propelled the Pioneers to a 5-2 win over Young Harris College in non-conference men's tennis action Saturday at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The Pioneers (6-1) won all three full-length singles matches to clinch the win over the Mountain Lions (4-1), as Young Harris was able to salvage two points with pro-set victories at flights two and six of singles.

In doubles, Jacco Mensinga and Gabriel Yaguar beat Ruben Gonzalez and Alex Schiltz 6-2 at flight two, and Frank Bonacia teamed with Manuel Guedes de Almeida for a 6-3 win over Kash Reddiyar and Romeo Luque at flight three to clinch the doubles point.

In singles, David Akinpetide beat Reddiyah 6-4, 7-5 at flight one, Leon Huck defeated Andres Padilla 6-1, 6-1 at flight three and Vadzim Raitsou won 6-2, 7-5 at flight five over Luque to secure the win for the Pioneers. Almeida also added a victory with an 8-4 win at flight four over Herman Ronnberg.

Tusculum will play an exhibition match on the road at UNC Asheville on Wednesday at 2 p.m. before resuming their regular-season slate on Saturday, Feb. 29 at the Nichols Tennis Complex against North Georgia.
