#38 Pioneers win fourth straight, 8-1 over Mars Hill

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The 38th-ranked Tusculum men's tennis team defeated Mars Hill 8-1 in South Atlantic Conference action Wednesday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The Pioneers (12-4, 3-2 SAC) swept the Lions (4-9, 0-4 SAC) in doubles, then won two of the first three singles matches to clinch their fourth straight victory.

In doubles, Tashique Kader and Gabriel Yaguar posted an 8-2 win at flight one over Ben Reid and Rodrigo Ramos, Eduardo Munoz and Jorge Cervantes beat Fernando Neto and Tom Farman 8-4 at flight two, and Yago Fernandez and Toby de Klerk teamed at flight three for an 8-0 victory over Pedro Pinassi and Kyrel Trim.

The Pioneers locked up the win as Tomas Kmetko defeated Ramos 6-1, 6-0 at flight two and Fernandez beat Neto 6-0, 6-2 at flight three. Tusculum also swept three pro set single matches, as Cervantes won 8-1 over Farman at flight four, David Akinpetide won 8-4 at flight five against Trim, and Fabian Paier posted an 8-3 win against Pinassi at flight six.

The Pioneers will be back home to face Lenoir-Rhyne on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
