Lincoln Memorial edges Tusculum 5-4 in conference battle

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- A three-set win in the final singles match was the difference as Lincoln Memorial University defeated Tusculum College 5-4 in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action Saturday at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The Railsplitters (6-2, 2-1 SAC) earned the decisive point at number five singles, where David Segarra came from a set down to defeat David Siegle 6-7 (13-11), 6-2, 6-3 and clinch the match. Teammate Pepe Batalla also had a three-set win in singles for the Railsplitters, who won four of the six singles matches against the Pioneers (6-3, 3-1 SAC).

Tusculum took a 2-1 lead in doubles as Tomas Kmetko and Toby de Klerk beat Joshua Coulthard and Jake Tuchmann 8-5 at flight one, and Siegle teamed with Yago Fernandez to beat Batalla and Segarra 8-4 at flight three.

The Pioneers' singles wins came at flight one, where Kmetko defeated Coulthard 6-0, 7-6 (7-5), and at flight six as Eduardo Munoz won 6-3, 6-4 over Moritz Hoerner.

Tusculum will travel to Hilton Head, South Carolina for three matches over Spring Break, starting Tuesday against Northwood at 8 a.m. and Palm Beach Atlantic at 5 p.m.
