Tusculum 11th in NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings
INDIANAPOLIS ---

The Tusculum College men's tennis team is 11th in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings, which were released on Wednesday.

The Pioneers have a 17-3 record against Division II opponents and a 16-3 mark against in-region opponents, including wins of 6-3 against 9th-ranked Queens University of Charlotte and 5-4 over 10th-ranked Wingate. The only other regionally-ranked opponent on Tusculum's schedule is Bluefield State, which is ranked first in the Atlantic Region and beat the Pioneers 6-3 at home on April 10.

The regional ranking is used for selecting the eight-team Southeast Region Tournament, which will be split into two four-team preliminary round sites. Tournament champions of the South Atlantic Conference (Queens), Conference Carolinas (to be determined) and Peach Belt Conference (Armstrong State) will receive automatic berths to the NCAA postseason, with the remaining five slots filled by at-large qualifiers.

Tusculum is 19-4 overall and won its second SAC championship in the past three years with a 10-1 conference record. The Pioneers opened the season with 15 consecutive victories, which is the longest winning streak in program history, and included a 4-3 win over Division I George Mason on March 7.

Armstrong State is the number-one team in the rankings, followed by Columbus State, Lander, Georgia College and North Georgia in the top five. Francis Marion is sixth, followed by USC Aiken, Augusta, Queens, Wingate and Tusculum.

The championship field will be unveiled by the NCAA during its selection show on Tuesday, May 3 at 8 p.m. on NCAA.com. The national champion will be determined May 18-21 in Denver.
