Anderson University won all three singles matches that went
three sets to finish off a 5-4 victory over Tusculum College in
South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action Saturday
afternoon.
The Trojans (10-5, 7-2 SAC) won two of the three doubles matches,
then split the six singles matches to hand the Pioneers (13-1, 4-1
SAC) their first loss of the season.
The Pioneers gained their doubles point at flight one, where Tim
Stierle and Jonas Winkelmann teamed to beat Aljaz Cajzek and Mateo
Rivas by a score of 8-3. Stierle also beat Cajzek 6-4, 6-0 at
flight one of singles, while Winkelmann defeated Rivas 6-0, 6-4 at
flight two.
Toby de Klerk also picked up a point in singles with a 6-0, 6-4
victory over Inaki Iriberri at flight five, but the Trojans came
through in each of the three matches that went to the third and
final set. Paul Michael Calhoun claimed the winning point with a
7-5, 6-7, 7-5 victory at flight six for Anderson.
The Pioneers will look to bounce back on Sunday when they host
Brevard at the Nichols Tennis Complex beginning at 1 p.m.
