The Tusculum College men's tennis team extended its
season-opening winning streak to 11 matches with a 7-2 victory over
Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference action Tuesday
afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
The 49th-ranked Pioneers (11-0, 2-0 SAC) swept doubles and won the
first two matches in singles to lock up the victory over the
Indians (6-9, 1-4 SAC) in their first completed home match since
February 22.
In doubles action, Tim Stierle and Jonas Winkelmann beat Jack
Mordey and Mitchell McDonald 8-2 at flight one, Leon Seiz and
Tashique Kader defeated Michael Patch and Lucca Picca 8-4 at flight
two, and Eduardo Munoz teamed with Toby de Klerk at flight three
for an 8-6 win over Iago Montero Nunez and Lucas Miller.
Stierle defeated Mordey 6-1, 6-3 at flight one to give the Pioneers
a 4-0 lead, and Munoz claimed the winning point with a 6-0, 6-2
victory at flight two over Miller. In other results, Kader defeated
Picca 6-4, 6-2 at flight four and de Klerk downed Nunez 8-4 in a
pro set at flight six.
The Pioneers welcome 48th-ranked Wingate for a SAC showdown on
Friday afternoon at 2:30 at the Nichols Tennis Complex. The teams
shared the SAC championship last year, and either Tusculum or
Wingate has won eight of the last 11 league titles.
