GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The 43rd-ranked
Tusculum College men's tennis team earned a key South Atlantic
Conference victory on Saturday by defeating 38th-ranked Queens
University of Charlotte 6-3. Leon Seiz earned the match-clinching
point for the Pioneers (15-1, 8-1 South Atlantic Conference) in the
fourth singles flight.
TC was victorious in the top four singles spots against the
Royals (11-2, 6-2). In a battle of two Southeast Region powers at
number one, third-ranked Lukas Winkelmann ran his regular-season
singles winning streak to 48 matches with a victory against
16th-ranked Per-Erik Soleer (6-1, 6-4).
Nicolas Planchard edged Jules Anthalis 7-6, 7-5 in the second
flight while Jonas Winkelmann topped Will Roberson (6-2, 6-7, 6-3)
in three sets in the third spot. Seiz claimed the decisive point
with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Andor Vas.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 2-1 lead with a pair of doubles
victories. In the top spot, Jonas and Lukas Winkelmann upset Soleer
and Vas (8-6), who are ranked eighth in the Southeast Region.
Tashique Kader and Seiz picked up a win over Anthalis and Roberson
(8-2) in the second position.
Tusculum will take a well deserved break before continuing its
three-match road trip next Friday at Brevard. First serves against
the Tornados are set for 2 p.m.
