
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The No. 43 Tusculum
College men's tennis team swept through doubles and Nicolas
Planchard clinched the deciding point as the Pioneers defeated
visiting Coker College 8-1 Saturday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis
Complex.
The Pioneers (11-1, 4-1 SAC) picked up three hard-earned doubles
points, including an 8-4 pro set victory by the No.1 duo of Lukas
and Jonas Winkelmann. At No. 2 doubles, Leon Seiz and Tashique
Kader posted an 8-5 win over the Coker pairing of William Marrafao
and Dominic Allan. TC also got an 8-5 decision at the third flight
as Planchard and Siegle were victorious over Zach Grooms and Mark
Watt.
Lukas Winkelmann, the No. 10 ranked singles player in NCAA Division II, extended his winning streak to 44 consecutive matches with his 6-1, 6-2 victory over Marrafao at the top flight to improve to 11-0 on the year.
Planchard's 6-1, 6-4 victory over Simon Bergbom at No. 2 singles sealed the victory for the Pioneers. The trio of Seiz, Kader and Siegle completed the scoring for the Pioneers.
Tusculum returns to action Sunday when they host Newberry College for a noon contest at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
