GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College
men's tennis team opened the spring portion of its 2014-15 schedule
with a 6-3 victory over Anderson University on Saturday afternoon
in Greeneville.
Tusculum (5-0, 1-0 South Atlantic Conference) earned four
singles victories and two doubles wins against the Trojans (7-2,
4-1 SAC). Lukas Winkelmann was victorious over Anderson's Nicolas
Ascarrunz in the top singles position (6-1, 6-2), while his
brother, Jonas Winkelmann, defeated Mateo Rivas in the third spot
(7-6, 6-4).
Leon Seiz and Tashique Kader were also victorious in their
spring debuts. Seiz knocked off Paul Michael Calhoun at number four
(6-4, 2-6, 6-2) and Kader beat Inaki Irberry by a score of 6-3, 6-3
in the fifth flight.
In doubles action, Lukas and Jonas Winkelmann defeated
Ascarrunz and Jaun Carracedo 8-5 in the top spot, while Seiz and
Kader teamed up to knock off Rivas and Harrison Kansol 8-3 in the
second flight.
The Pioneers will travel to Hilton Head, South Carolina for
three matches over spring break starting Monday against
Millersville University at 8 a.m.
