Arnett wins 400th at TC as Pioneers sweep Dalton State

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College head men's and Women's coach Tommy Arnett claimed his 400th victory as head coach of the Pioneers with a pair of wins on Sunday against Dalton State College. The Tusculum women defeated Dalton State 7-2 while the Pioneer men were a 6-3 winner over the Roadrunners.

Arnett, in his 13th season at Tusculum, has a 217-60 record as Women's coach (.783 percentage) and a 183-88 mark as men's coach (.675 percentage) for a combined mark of 400 wins and 148 losses (.730 percentage). During his tenure, the Pioneers have combined for nine SAC championships, four SAC tournament titles and 13 trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament.

The Pioneers (17-4) led 2-1 after doubles and put away the win over the Roadrunners (13-5) by capturing the top three singles flights.

Lukas Winkelmann capped a perfect 21-0 regular season with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of David Draghiceanu at flight one. Winkelmann lost just one set during the regular season and has a streak of 33 consecutive regular-season victories that will carry over into next year.

Nicolas Planchard needed a tiebreaker to defeat Nikolay Nikiforov 10-4 at flight two, after the players split the first two sets 7-5 and 3-6. At flight three, Jonas Winkelmann defeated Juan Pablo Arguello 6-1, 6-2, while Leon Seiz beat Lucas deSouza 6-2, 6-0 at flight six.

In doubles, the Winkelmanns defeated Hadyn Fava and Arguello 8-3 at flight one, and Planchard and Seiz claimed an 8-4 win over Draghiceanu and deSouza at flight three.

Tusculum earned the number-two seed in the upcoming Food Lion SAC Tournament and will play either Coker or Newberry in a semifinal match on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Rock Hill Tennis Center in Rock Hill, S.C.
