Tusculum College bounced back from a close loss on Tuesday with a convincing 8-1 victory over 33rd-ranked Coker College Thursday afternoon in a South Atlantic Conference men's tennis match.

The Pioneers (15-4, 8-2 SAC), who had dropped a 5-4 decision to newly-crowned SAC champion Wingate on Tuesday afternoon, swept doubles and captured five of the six singles matches against the Cobras (9-7, 8-2 SAC), who had a seven-match winning streak come to an end with the loss.

The spotlight match was a battle at flight one of singles between Tusculum's Lukas Winkelmann and Coker's Andre Staab, both unbeaten in conference play at 9-0 entering the day. However, the day would belong to Winkelmann as he rolled to a 6-4, 6-2 win over Staab to boost his overall record to 19-0.

Nicolas Planchard and Jonas Winkelmann also handed the first conference defeats of the season to their opponents, as Planchard bested Tom Sizeland 7-5, 6-1 at flight two and Jonas Winkelmann outlasted William Marrafao 6-7, 7-6, (10-5) at flight three.

Other singles wins for the Pioneers came from Leon Seiz at flight five by a 7-5, 6-3 score over Martin Moncayo, and from Joseph Elphingstone as he defeated Zach Grooms 6-4, 6-2 at flight six. Seiz's win was his 13th in a row and lifted his season record to 15-3.

In doubles play, the Winkelmanns won their 11th consecutive contest with an 8-4 victory over Staab and James Corfield, who had not lost in nine league matches this season at flight one. At flight two, David Siegle teamed with Elphingstone to beat Marrafao and Sizeland by a score of 8-6, while Planchard and Seiz knocked off Moncayo and Grooms 8-3 at flight three.

The Pioneers wrap up their SAC regular-season schedule on Saturday when they host Queens University at the Nichols Tennis Complex starting at 12:30 p.m. Both teams are in contention for second place in the conference, which would guarantee a bye into the semifinals of the Food Lion SAC Tournament, which begins next Wednesday in Rock Hill, S.C.
