
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College men's tennis team fell 5-4 to 34th-ranked Wingate University in a South Atlantic Conference match Tuesday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
The Pioneers (14-4, 7-2 SAC) saw their 11-match winning streak come to an end at the hands of the Bulldogs (15-6, 10-0 SAC) in the third 5-4 match between the teams in the past year.
Tusculum trailed 2-1 after doubles, with their victory coming at flight one as Lukas Winkelmann and Jonas Winkelmann edged Neal Towlson and Sebastian Hall by a 9-8 score.
The match was tied 3-3 after the first half of singles, as Lukas Winkelmann stayed unbeaten at 18-0 with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Towlson at flight one. Nicolas Planchard was also victorious as he beat Hall 7-6, 6-2 at flight two.
However, Wingate won two of the final three singles matches to claim the win. Tusculum's lone point came at flight five where Leon Seiz edged Ryan Forbes 10-8 in a tiebreaker after they split the first two sets 7-6 and 5-7.
The Pioneers will play their second straight ranked opponent on Thursday when they face #33 Coker on the road in Hartsville, S.C. beginning at 12 noon.
