
Tusculum College did not drop a set in singles in a 9-0 sweep of
Carson-Newman University in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis
action Tuesday afternoon.
The Pioneers (12-3, 5-1 SAC) have won nine consecutive matches,
including five by shutout, while the Eagles dropped to 4-14 overall
and 2-5 in the conference with the loss.
Tusculum kicked off the sweep with three wins in doubles, as the
regionally-ranked duo of Lukas and Jonas Winkelmann beat Juan
Sebastian Perez and Stefano Daza by an 8-1 score at flight one.
Also in doubles, David Siegle and Joseph Elphingstone defeated
Austin Mackay and Joao Pedro Oliveria 8-6 at flight two, and
Nicolas Planchard and Leon Seiz defeated Lee Presson and Daniel
Douglas 8-0 at flight three.
In singles, Lukas Winkelmann moved to 15-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over
Perez at flight one, Planchard defeated Daza 6-4, 6-0 at flight two
and Jonas Winkelmann downed Oliveria 6-3, 6-1 at flight three. Also
in singles, Siegle downed Jonathan Allen 6-3, 6-2 at flight four,
Seiz was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Mackay at flight five and
Elphingstone handled Douglas 6-1, 6-1 at flight six.
The Pioneers will step out of conference play in their next match,
when they host North Greenville University on Thursday at 4 p.m. at
the Nichols Tennis Complex.
