
HARROGATE, Tenn. --- A sweep of six singles matches enabled Tusculum College to defeat Lincoln Memorial University 8-1 in a South Atlantic Conference men's tennis match Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers (5-3, 1-1 SAC) continue to dominate the upper half of singles play, as Lukas Winkelmann, Nicolas Planchard and Jonas Winkelmann all boosted their season records to 8-0 with wins over the Railsplitters (1-3, 0-1 SAC).
Tusculum led 2-1 after doubles as John Taylor and David Siegle beat Stefan Hall and Guilherme Rocha 8-5 at flight two, and Planchard teamed with Leon Seiz for an 8-3 win at flight three over Odhran O'Sullivan-Hamill and Alexey Minevskiy.
The Pioneers put away the match in the first round of singles, as Lukas Winkelmann beat Will Sparks 6-2, 6-1, Planchard downed O'Sullivan-Hamill 6-2, 6-1 and Jonas Winkelmann held off Marcelo Alvim 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
In the rest of singles play, Siegle beat Rocha 6-4, 6-4 and Taylor downed Minevskiy 3-6, 6-4 (10-7). Seiz won his match when Hall retired after dropping the first set 6-2.
The Pioneers are off until their annual Spring Break trip to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina during the week of March 10. The Pioneers will open play on Monday, March 10 against Charleston (W.Va.) starting at 11:30 a.m.
