
The Tusculum College men's tennis team claimed its first shutout
win of the spring with a 9-0 victory over Milligan College in a
non-conference match Tuesday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis
Complex.
The Pioneers (4-3) lost a total of four games in doubles, then
swept 11 of the 12 singles sets to earn the win over the Buffaloes
(2-2).
The Tusculum singles trio of Lukas Winkelmann, Nicolas Planchard
and Jonas Winkelmann all improved to 7-0 with straight-set wins
against Milligan. Lukas Winkelmann beat Colin Bumann 6-2, 6-2 at
flight one, Planchard defeated Fernando Gonzalez 6-2, 6-1 at flight
two, and Jonas Winkelmann was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at flight three
over Matias Yanez.
At flight four, John Taylor edged Jackson Lenoir 6-4, 4-6 and 10-4
in a tiebreak, Leon Seiz beat Alex Delozier 6-0, 6-2 at flight five
and Joseph Elphingstone won 6-0, 6-3 at flight six over Chris
Heldman.
Doubles action saw the team of Lukas and Jonas Winkelmann defeat
Bumann and Yanez 8-1 at flight one, while Taylor teamed with David
Siegle for an 8-2 win at flight two over Gonzalez and Lenoir. The
Pioneers claimed their third doubles point at flight three when
Planchard and Elphingstone defeated Delozier and Will Blackmarr by
an 8-1 score.
The Pioneers resume their South Atlantic Conference schedule on
Saturday at noon at Lincoln Memorial.
