
Tusculum College sophomore men's tennis player Lukas Winkelmann
has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District® III
Men's At-Large team, selected by the College Sports Information
Directors of America (CoSIDA) and released Thursday.
Winkelmann is one of 10 student-athletes named to the All-District
team. The honorees advance to the Capital One Academic
All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team
All-America honorees will be selected on June 5.
The South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year and
Scholar-Athlete Award winner, Winkelmann compiled a 17-2 record at
number-one singles and a 13-6 mark at number-one doubles for the
Pioneers, who won the SAC championship for the fourth time in
program history. Tusculum finished 15-5 overall and 8-1 in SAC
matches during the 2012-13 season.
Winkelmann, a native of Boeblingen, Germany and the SAC Freshman of
the Year in 2012, finished the regular season with 12 consecutive
victories and compiled a perfect 9-0 record in singles action in
conference matches. In two seasons, Winkelmann has a 29-7 record in
singles for the Pioneers.
In the classroom, Winkelmann sports a 3.93 GPA studying
pre-medicine. He has earned selections to the Tusculum Athletic
Director's Honor Roll, the TC President's List, the Charles Oliver
Gray Honors List, the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll and the ITA
All-Academic Team.
Winkelmann serves in numerous leadership roles, including as a team
captain and as a representative on the Pioneer Student-Athlete
Advisory Committee. He has also volunteered with Tusculum
fundraisers and assisted the school in hosting the 2012 SAC Cross
Country Championship.
The Capital One Division II Academic All-America® program is
being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national
governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards
fulfillment aspects for the 2012-13 DII Academic All-America®
teams program.
