
Tusculum College posted its seventh consecutive victory with a
9-0 sweep of Lenoir-Rhyne University in a South Atlantic Conference
men's tennis match at the Nichols Tennis Complex Saturday
afternoon.
The Pioneers (10-4, 4-1 SAC) posted their fourth shutout victory of
the season by winning all but one set against the Bears (2-8, 1-7
SAC). Tusculum has won 52 of 61 matches from its opponents during
its streak of seven straight wins.
Tusculum's doubles lineup set the tone for the match with three
victories. At flight one, Lukas Winkelmann and Nicolas Planchard
defeated Kilian Symalla and John Christian Reid 8-2, Jonas
Winkelmann and John Taylor downed Filip Dobrosavljevic and Dylan
Millwood 8-0 at flight two, and Paul Wiederspahn teamed with Joseph
Elphingstone for an 8-3 win over Jordan Lawson and Matthew Ledford
at flight three.
In singles, Lukas Winkelmann improved his record to 12-1 with a
6-2, 6-0 win at flight one over Symalla, and Planchard boosted his
season mark to 10-1 with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Dobrosavljevic at
flight two. At flight three, Jonas Winkelmann won a tiebreaker 10-7
over Reid after splitting the first two sets 6-2 and 3-6.
Wiederspahn won 6-0, 6-2 over Lawson at flight four, Taylor was a
6-2, 6-1 winner at flight five over Ledford, and Daniel Gianopulos
claimed a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Millwood at flight six.
The Pioneers will face first-place Lincoln Memorial in a SAC
showdown Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Nichols Tennis
Complex. The Railsplitters are 4-0 in conference play, a half-game
ahead of the Pioneers in the standings.
