
Tusculum College freshman Nicolas Planchard was named the South
Atlantic Conference Player of the Week in men's tennis for the week
ending March 24, the conference office announced on Monday.
Planchard picked up two wins apiece at flight two singles and
flight one doubles as the Pioneers earned a pair of victories to
extend their winning streak to five matches in a row. Tusculum
snapped Wingate's 30-match SAC winning streak with a 5-4 win on
Friday, and came back on Saturday for an 8-1 win at Catawba.
Planchard earned the decisive point in the Pioneers' win over
Wingate, rallying from a set down for a 10-7 win in the tiebreaker
after splitting the first two sets 3-6, 6-2. Earlier in the match,
the Frisange, Luxembourg, native teamed with Lukas Winkelmann for
an 8-6 win in doubles. In the victory over Catawba, Planchard
posted a 6-3, 6-3 win in singles after recording an 8-1 victory in
doubles action.
This season, Planchard is 8-1 in singles and 7-3 in doubles for the
Pioneers, who are 8-4 overall and 2-1 in the SAC.
Tusculum is scheduled to host King in a non-conference match on
Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
