Tusculum College men's tennis student-athletes Steven Lin and
Luis Zamora has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic
All-District III Men's At-Large Team for NCAA Division II, the
College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced
Thursday.
Lin and Zamora advance to the Academic All-America® ballot,
which will be announced in early June. Men's at-large sports
include fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle,
skiing, swimming, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.
Lin compiled an 11-8 singles record and a 13-6 doubles mark for the
Pioneers in 2011-12, including winning streaks of seven matches in
singles and doubles, and was named SAC Player of the Week for the
week ending February 26.
The Ping Dong, Taiwan native compiled a career singles record of
50-17 and 48-26 in doubles and was a two-time All-South Atlantic
Conference second team selection. Lin was a member of the ITA
Scholar-Athlete Team, the Tusculum Athletic Director's Honor Roll
and the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll.
A recent graduate of Tusculum with a 3.78 grade-point average as a
biology major, Lin plans to attend dental school and become an oral
and maxillofacial surgeon.
Zamora, a native of Santiago, Chile and a team captain, played
primarily at number-three singles and number-one doubles, earning
four singles victories and seven wins in doubles for the Pioneers
this season.
In the classroom, the two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete selection boasts

acknowledges the top-10 percent of each class - and is a two-time
Duffield Award recipient, an honor given to the Tusculum
student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA.
An active member in the local community as well, Zamora is heavily
involved with groups including the Tusculum Student-Athlete
Advisory Committee, "Help Me Help You, Inc.", the TC Bonner
Leader's Program and the TC Business Club.
He is also in the process of creating a Center for Economic
Development and Entrepreneurship at Tusculum, and is the founder
and president of the Study Abroad and Global Awareness organization
on campus.
Members of the Capital One Academic All-District 3 Team are
selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America
(CoSIDA), which includes all colleges and universities in the South
Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and Peach Belt
Conference.
This is the first year of the expanded Academic All-America®
program as CoSIDA moves from recognizing a University Division
(Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and
doubles the number of scholar-athletes honored. The teams include
NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III
participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA,
Canadian and two-year schools.
The Capital One Division II and III Academic All-America®
program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and
III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling
the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2011‐12 DII and DIII
Academic All-America® teams program.
