
Wingate University defeated Tusculum College 5-0 in a Food Lion
South Atlantic Conference Men's Tennis Championship semifinal match
Friday afternoon at the Rock Hill Tennis Club.
The top-seeded Bulldogs (17-6) will face the winner of Friday's
other semifinal match between Anderson and Lincoln Memorial in the
championship match Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The Pioneers' season ends
with a final record of 12-10.
Wingate jumped out to a 3-0 lead in doubles as Flavio Rathsam and
Neal Towlson defeated Lukas Winkelmann and Luis Zamora 8-5 at
flight one, Andrew Owen and Matthew Lichtenstein posted an 8-2 win
at flight two over Paul Wiederspahn and Steven Lin, and at flight
three Diego Martinez and Ryan Forbes picked up an 8-4 triumph over
Drew Kiser and John Taylor.
In singles, Martinez swept Wiederspahn 6-0, 6-0 at flight four and
Owen downed Tony Bujana 6-1, 6-0 at flight two to clinch the match
for the Bulldogs. Winkelmann led Rathsam 6-2, 2-1 at flight one
when the match ended.
