Seniors Drew Kiser and Steven Lin earned singles and doubles
points in their final home matches to lift Tusculum College to a
6-3 victory over Brevard College in a South Atlantic Conference
men's tennis match Tuesday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis
Complex.
The victory clinched a berth in next week's Food Lion SAC
Tournament for the Pioneers (11-9, 5-4 SAC), while the Tornados
dropped to 7-14 overall and 1-7 in conference play.
Kiser teamed with John Taylor for an 8-3 victory over Stefano
Giovanolli and George Finch at flight three of doubles, then closed
out the match with a 6-4, 0-6, (10-8) win in a super tiebreaker
against Rob Havens at flight six of singles.
Lin and Paul Wiederspahn posted an 8-1 win at flight two of doubles
over Rory Northam and Jonathon Lavelle, the Lin came back for a
6-3, 6-3 victory at flight four of singles against Giovanolli.
The Pioneers also received singles wins from Wiederspahn at flight
three, where he defeated Northam 6-4, 6-0, and at flight five as
Stefan Vergeer downed Finch 6-0, 6-4.
Tusculum has locked up the fourth seed in next week's Food Lion SAC
Tournament at the Rock Hill Tennis Center in Rock Hill, S.C. The
Pioneers will play the number five seed in an opening round match
on Thursday, April 19.
