
A doubles sweep sparked Tusculum College to a 6-3 victory over
host Carson-Newman College in a South Atlantic Conference men's
tennis match Wednesday afternoon.
The Pioneers (7-5, 1-0 SAC) earned their third straight victory and
sixth in their last seven contests by permitting the Eagles (6-4,
2-2 SAC) to win just one non-tiebreaker match.
Tusculum jumped to a commanding 3-0 lead in doubles play, as Lukas
Winkelmann and Luis Zamora defeated Dusty Davis and Eric Mueller
8-4 at flight one, Paul Wiederspahn and Steven Lin downed Paul
Birdsong and Warren McClure 8-4 at flight two, and Drew Kiser
teamed with John Taylor for a 9-7 win over Derek Holdway and Austin
Mackay at flight three.
In singles play, Winkelmann posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Davis at
flight one, Zamora got past Holdway 7-6, 6-4 at flight three and
Lin rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Mueller at flight five.
The Pioneers will be home for two matches this weekend, beginning
Friday at 2:00 p.m. against Wingate at the Nichols Tennis
Complex.
