GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College men's tennis team turned in a dominating performance in a 9-0 non-conference victory over the University of Virginia-Wise Monday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
Playing in their first match in 12 days, the Pioneers (6-5) showed little rust by dropping a total of three games in singles action against the Cavaliers (1-4).
In doubles action, Luis Zamora and Stefan Vergeer posted an 8-3 victory over Chase Cupp and Marc Huff at flight one, Drew Kiser and John Taylor earned an 8-0 win at flight two over Mark Collins and Matt Sisk, and Steven Lin teamed with Grant Parker to shut out Nick Austin and Michael Baker 8-0 at flight three.
In singles play, Lukas Winkelmann was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Cupp at flight one, Tony Bujana defeated Huff 6-2, 6-0 at flight two and at flight three Zamora blanked Sisk 6-0, 6-0.
At flight four, Paul Wiederspahn defeated Austin by a 6-0, 6-0 score, Lin downed Collins 6-0, 6-1 at flight five and Vergeer picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory at flight six over Jimmy Stewart.
The Pioneers will play their final nine regular-season matches against South Atlantic Conference opponents, beginning Wednesday with a 2 p.m. match at Carson-Newman.
