The Tusculum College men's tennis team won four of six singles
matches and defeated Walsh University 6-3 in action Monday
afternoon.
The Pioneers (4-4) won their third straight match and opened their
Spring Break trip with a victory over the Cavaliers (5-3).
In singles play, Paul Wiederspahn defeated Jonathan Esber 10-5 in a
super tiebreaker after the players split their first two sets 7-5,
3-6. Steven Lin posted a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Louis Thomas at
flight four, Stefan Vergeer won 6-4, 6-3 at flight five over Curtis
Kugler and Drew Kiser downed Jarred Gable 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 at flight
six.
Tusculum opened the match by taking two of three doubles contests
against Walsh. Wiederspahn and Lin defeated Thomas and Kugler 8-1
at flight two, and Kiser teamed with John Taylor for an 8-2 victory
at flight three over Chase Pucci and Grant Bilinovich.
The Pioneers will be back on the courts Tuesday morning for an 8:00
a.m. match against Northern Kentucky.
