
BREVARD, N.C. --- Regionally-ranked Brevard College improved to 4-0 in the South Atlantic Conference with a 6-3 win over Tusculum College in a SAC men's tennis match Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers dropped to 6-10 overall and 2-5 in the SAC with the loss.
The Pioneers grabbed a point in doubles when Drew Kiser and Sam Groeneveld teamed for an 8-6 victory over Shane Apps and Jarred Fisher at flight three. Brevard, ranked 19th in the region, captured the other two points as Scott McCormick and Beau Wills defeated Luis Zamora and Gui Carvalho at flight one (8-5) and Cole Altizer and Sam MacNeil bested Steven Lin and Tony Bujana 8-5 at flight two.
In singles play, Lin claimed a 6-0, 1-6, 7-6 victory at flight three over Wills, and Kiser defeated Fisher 6-3, 6-4 at flight five to account for the Pioneers' other two points. McCormick won 6-4, 6-3 over Bujana at flight one, MacNeil won 6-1, 6-0 at flight two over Zamora, Altizer was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Carvalho at flight four, and Apps beat Groeneveld 6-0, 6-3 at flight six.
The Pioneers are back on the court at the Nichols Tennis Complex on Sunday at 2 p.m. against Anderson, in a match rescheduled from March 27 due to rain.
