
Tusculum College completed a rally from a 4-1 deficit, but
visiting Lincoln Memorial University came away with a 5-4 victory
in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action Monday afternoon
at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
The Pioneers (6-8, 2-3 SAC) trailed 4-1 midway through singles
play, but picked up three straight wins to tie the match at 4-4.
The Railsplitters (6-4, 3-1 SAC) earned the decisive point at
flight six when Stefan Hall defeated Drew Kiser 6-4, 6-3 to wrap up
a match that lasted 5 1/2 hours and finished under the lights.
LMU led 2-1 after doubles, as Philipp Hoffmann and Tom Goossens
defeated Tony Bujana and Luis Zamora 8-5 at flight one and Alexey
Minevskiy teamed with Marcelo Alvim for an 8-6 victory over Steven
Lin and Oliver Smith at flight two. Kiser and Gui Carvalho salvaged
a point with a 9-8 win at flight three over Hall and Michael
Koenen.
The Railsplitters extended their lead to 4-1 as Alvim defeated Lim
6-3, 6-2 at flight three and Hoffmann downed Bujana 6-4, 6-4 at
flight one. Zamora gave the Pioneers life with a 7-6, 7-6 victory
at flight two over Minevskiy.
Smith continued the rally for the Pioneers with a 6-1, 6-2 victory
over Koenen at flight four, and Carvalho knotted the match with a
6-4, 7-5 win over Goossens at flight five. However, Hall outlasted
Kiser at flight six to enable LMU to escape with the victory.
Tusculum will be back on the courts Tuesday afternoon at Mars Hill,
beginning at 2 p.m.
