
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. --- Tusculum College battled 39th-ranked Limestone College in a non-conference men's tennis match Tuesday morning, but the Saints prevailed by a final score of 7-2. Limestone moves to 7-4 this season while Tusculum drops to 5-4 with the loss.
Drew Kiser claimed the lone singles point for the Pioneers, defeating Daniel Lopez at flight six in a tiebreak by a 3-6, 7-5, (10-7) score. In doubles, Tony Bujana and Luis Zamora were victorious at flight one by a 9-7 count over Lopez and Jordan Vicain.
In other doubles matches, Rafael Ferla and Mike Stephenson picked up an 8-4 win over the Pioneers' Steven Lin and Oliver Smith at flight two, and Abraham Lascari Diaz teamed with Miguel Lopez Zuniga for an 8-6 win over Kiser and Sam Groeneveld at flight three.
In singles play, the Saints swept the top five flights, but
needed tiebreakers to claim two of the wins. Zuniga downed Smith
6-4, 6-3 at flight one, Stephenson defeated Bujana 6-4, 6-2 at
flight two, and Ferla was a 6-3, 6-3 winner at flight three over
Zamora,
At flight four, Vicain squeaked past Lin 7-6, 5-7, (10-8) while at
flight five Diaz edged Paulo dos Santos by a 6-1, 4-6, (10-8)
score.
The Pioneers wrap up their trip to Hilton Head on Wednesday with an 8 a.m. match against Bloomsburg.
