
The Tusculum College men's tennis team cruised to an 8-1 victory
over West Liberty University to open Spring Break action Monday
morning. The Pioneers lost just one full set in singles to improve
to 5-3 this season, while the Hilltoppers fell to 1-2.
In singles, Tony Bujana led Erik Jahreskog 6-4 after the first set
when Jahreskog retired to give the Pioneers the win at flight two.
Luis Zamora rolled past Ayman Barakat 6-0, 6-0 at flight three,
Steven Lin defeated Alex Conway 6-3, 6-3 at flight four, Drew Kiser
posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Andrew Sickles at flight five and Sam
Groeneveld earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory at flight six over Darren
Fields.
West Liberty's lone point came at flight one, where Alex Fager
needed a 10-point tiebreak to edge Oliver Smith 10-8 after the
players split the first two sets, 6-2 and 3-6.
In doubles, the Pioneers picked up the clean sweep as Bujana and
Zamora bested Fager and Jahreskog 8-3 at flight one, Lin and Smith
downed Barakat and Conway 8-4 at flight two, and Kiser teamed with
Gui Carvalho for an 8-2 win over Sickles and Fields at flight
three.
The Pioneers continue action on Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. against
Limestone.
