Rodrigues, Lin, Zamora named to All-SAC Men's Tennis Team

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Three Tusculum College student-athletes have been named to the 2010 All-South Atlantic Conference Men's Tennis Second Team announced league officials Wednesday. Tusculum senior Henrique Rodrigues, who was tabbed to the All-SAC Team, was also selected as this year's SAC Scholar Athlete for Men's Tennis.

Rodrigues, a native from Salvador-Bahia, Brazil, earns All-Conference honors for a third straight season. He has posted a 7-11 record this year, playing predominantly at No. 1 singles. He also posted an 11-7 doubles record playing at the top-flight. During his Tusculum career, he has accounted for a 37-37 career singles record, while also posting a 52-30 worksheet in doubles.

Sophomore Steven Lin returns to the All-SAC Second Team for a second consecutive year. Lin, playing at No. 3 singles, posted a 13-5 record, including victories in four of his last six outings. He also went 13-5 at No. 2 doubles, including 12-5 with teammate Oliver Smith. In his two years at Tusculum, Lin has posted a 28-9 singles record, while also going 26-12 in doubles play.

Freshman Luis Zamora rounds out the list of Tusculum's All-SAC honorees. Zamora, a rookie from Santiago, Chile, posted a solid 9-9 singles record in the top two flights for the Pioneers. Zamora and Rodrigues also went 11-7 at No. 1 doubles.

Rodrigues becomes the second Pioneer in program history to earn SAC Scholar Athlete. Former Tusculum standout Hunter Beal earned this award last season.

Rodrigues has excelled both on the tennis court and in the classroom. The Accounting major has a 3.88 cumulative grade point average and is a member of the President's List, Dean's List, South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll, Athletic Director's Honor Roll and Charles Oliver Gray Honor List.

In 2007, he was the recipient of the Tusculum Academic Freshman of the Year Award, recognizing the rookie student-athlete with the highest GPA. In 2008, he was the recipient of the Duffield Academic Award, which honors the Tusculum student-athlete (upperclassman) with the best GPA.

He was named the 2009 Tusculum College Student of the Block and has been active with numerous community service and leadership activities including: serving as a volunteer with the Greeneville and Johnson City Soup Kitchens and the Greene County Rural Resources Farm. He and the Tusculum tennis teams also assisted a family during the Thanksgiving holiday and assisted with a service learning project in assisting the homeless in the community.

The SAC Scholar Athlete Award is selected by the faculty athletic representatives of the league's nine colleges and universities.

Tusculum (14-4) is the third seed in this week's Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men's Tennis Tournament and will open against No. 6 seed Brevard College on Thursday at 1 p.m. The six-team, single-elimination tournament is being held at the Rock Hill Tennis Center in Rock Hill, S.C.
