
NEWBERRY, S.C. --- Drew Kiser and Gui Carvalho recorded two points each to lead the Tusculum College men's tennis team to a 5-4 South Atlantic Conference victory over Newberry College at Cannon Courts.
Tusculum (14-3, 6-2 SAC) has won five of its last six matches, while Newberry falls to 2-11, 1-6 SAC.
Tusculum captured two of the three doubles points, including a 9-8 pro set win by the No. 1 team of Henrique Rodrigues and Luis Zamora as they edged Newberry's Maxim Sukharev and Lucas Mattos. TC also got an 8-3 win by the No. 3 pairing of Kiser and Carvalho as they knocked off Scott Busbee and Samuel Cartin.
Newberry gathered in its lone doubles point at the No. 2 flight as Pavle Popovic and Christian Ranguelov edged Steven Lin and Oliver Smith, 8-6.
In singles play, Sukharev and Mattos won matches at the first
and third flight, while Zamora posted a 6-1, 7-5 win in his No. 2
singles against Popovic as the match was all square, 3-3.
Rangeuelov outlasted Smith in a three-set marathon (6-2, 2-6, 6-4)
at No. 4 singles. But Kiser and Carvalho won in straight sets at
No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
The Pioneers return home to the Nichols Tennis Complex to face 12th-ranked Lander University at the Nichols Tennis Complex, for Senior Day.
Sunday will mark the final home match for Tusculum senior Henrique Rodrigues.
