ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Carlos Garcia of Tusculum College has been
named the South Atlantic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week
announced league officials Monday. This marks the second straight
week and third time this year Garcia has earned this honor.
Garcia, a native of Caracas, Venezuela, went 2-0 last week as the
No. 35 Pioneers accounted for a pair of South Atlantic Conference
victories, while claiming the 2008 SAC Championship.
In Tusculum's 9-0 win over Catawba, Garcia posted a straight set
(6-3, 6-1) win over Hector Bousloulas at No. 3 singles. He and No.
1 doubles partner Sergio Espinosa were also victorious (8-3) in
their match with Catawba's Bryce Cockerham and Sean Soltan.
Against Wingate, Garcia rallied from a set down to defeat Braeden
Patchell, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3. For Garcia, it completed a remarkable 25-0
career record against SAC opponents.
Garcia improves his singles record to 15-1 this season (7-0 in
SAC) and has won his last 12 singles matches.
The SAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week is selected by a vote of
