TUSCULUM MEN WIN SIXTH IN A ROW, PIONEERS BEAT C-N 7-2

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. --- The No. 36 Tusculum College men's tennis team won its sixth consecutive match as the Pioneers defeated host Carson-Newman College 7-2 Wednesday in South Atlantic Conference action. Tusculum improves to 11-1 overall and 3-0 in league play, while the Eagles fall to 3-2, 1-2 SAC.

The No. 1 doubles team of Carlos Garcia and Sergio Espinosa got the Pioneers on the board first with their 8-5 pro set win over Jack Harvie and Preston Sneed. TC's other doubles point came at the No. 3 flight as Nicolas Bigler and Hunter Beal won 8-5 over Chris Acker and Trent Slagle.

In singles action, Espinosa rallied from a set down to defeat C-N's Giuseppe Schwarz 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 1 flight. Bigler and Garcia won their respective singles matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 flights, respectively.

SAC Player of the Week Henrique Rodrigues defeated Harvie 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, while Leo Guaycurus knocked off Acker 6-3, 3-6, 10-8 at the fifth flight.

Tusculum returns to Greeneville to begin a six-match home-stand on Friday when the Pioneers host Tennessee Wesleyan for a 4 p.m. contest at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
