GUAYCURUS PACES TUSCULUM MEN TO 5-4 WIN AT LMU


HARROGATE, Tenn. --- Tusculum's Leo Guaycurus recorded a pair of points, including a straight set win in singles to clinch the deciding point as the No. 36 Pioneers edged host Lincoln Memorial 5-4 in South Atlantic Conference men's tennis action.

Tusculum (9-1, 2-0 SAC) wins its fourth straight match, while LMU falls to 1-7 overall and 0-5 in the league.

Tusculum jumped out to a 2-1 advantage after doubles, including victory at the No. 2 and No. 3 flights. Guaycurus and No. 2 doubles partner Henrique Rodrigues defeated the LMU duo of Andras Pauko and Andrew Bates 8-5 in pro sets. Nicolas Bigler and Hunter Beal also accounted for an 8-2 win over Gabor Heredi-Szabo and Zack Jones at No. 3 doubles.

LMU tied the match at 2-2 as Hannes Ganss won 6-2, 6-1 over Sergio Espinosa at No. 1 singles. Tusculum regained the lead with Carlos Garcia's 6-0, 6-0 victory against Pauko at the third flight. Rodrigues won his No. 4 singles battle with Heredi-Szabo, 6-1, 6-2, while Guaycurus sealed the match with his 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Cody Swindall at No. 5 singles.

Tusculum returns to action on Friday when it hosts Lees-McRae for a 1 p.m. match at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
