BRISTOL, Tenn. --- The No. 35 Tusculum men's tennis team rallied from behind to post a 5-3 win over King College Friday night at the Bristol Country Club. The Pioneers (3-0) fell behind 2-1 in doubles, but bounced back with four singles wins, including a 4-6, 6-4 (11-9) win by Carlos Garcia at the No. 2 flight over King's Jon Jonsson.
For Garcia, it was his 20th consecutive singles win, which establishes a new school record.
King captured points at the top two doubles flights, including a 9-7 win by Andre Franco and Jonsson over the No. 1 TC duo of Sergio Espinosa and Garcia.
Hunter Beal and Nicolas Bigler accounted for Tusculum's point at doubles with a 9-8 marathon win over Juan Avila and Dusty Davis.
Bigler posted his second win of the day as he defeated Franco at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-4. Espinosa bounced back with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles over Avila. Leo Guaycurus clinched the winning point with his 6-2, 6-4 win over Davis at No. 6 singles.
Tusculum's home match with Alabama-Huntsville has been postponed due to the threat of inclement weather. The Pioneers return to action Tuesday afternoon when they host Lees-McRae College at 2 p.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
