Sainrimat scores twice as Pioneers take 5-1 win at Emory & Henry

EMORY, Va. --- Clarenns Sainrimat scored two goals and added an assist as Tusculum University collected a 5-1 victory at Emory & Henry University in South Atlantic Conference men's soccer Wednesday evening at Fred Selfe Stadium.

Felix Triftshauser, Lars Schutrups and David Evans each scored their first career goals for the Pioneers (1-5-2, 1-2-2 SAC), who outshot the Wasps (0-8-1, 0-6-0 SAC) by a 31-9 margin. The victory was the first career win for first-year Tusculum head coach Kyle Hughes.

The Pioneers scored three goals in the first 23 minutes to build a 3-0 lead, and added two more goals in the second half. Sainrimat scored in the 17th and 51st minutes for Tusculum, which had a 16-4 advantage in shots on goal over Emory & Henry in the match.

Tusculum took a 1-0 lead just 10:40 into the match as a cross from Sainrimat was tapped in by Triftshauser for his first career goal.

Sainrimat would stretch the lead to 2-0 at 16:36 after he was taken down in the box while pursuing a loose ball, which set up a penalty that he converted for his third goal of the year.

The Pioneers pushed their lead to 3-0 at 22:26 as a corner kick by Schutrups caromed back to him on the wing, and he blasted home his first career goal in his 30th match with the Pioneers.

Meanwhile, Tusculum starting keeper Noe Delmotte was seldom tested in the opening half as his lone save came on a 35-yard one-hopper from Josiah Garrett in the 20th minute. Emory & Henry's best scoring chance of the first half came in the 38th minute as a shot by A.J. Dale rang off the far post from 15 yards away.

Sainrimat netted his second of the day at 50:36 as a long cross-field feed from Enoch Brako went to Asbjorn Saevik down the right side, and Saevik crossed back in front to Sainrimat for the finish.

Emory & Henry got on the scoreboard in the 82nd minute on a goal by Christian Russell at 81:26, and Tusculum closed the scoring in the 86th minute as Evans moved around a defender and fired home his first career goal.

Delmotte played the first half in goal for the Pioneers and had one save, with Sondre Liahagen Kolnes making two saves in the second half. For the Wasps, Josiah Wilson started in goal and made three saves in 54 minutes and Emilio Hernandez-Araujo had five stops in the final 36 minutes.

Tusculum was called for 14 fouls to nine by Emory & Henry, and the Pioneers had a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks. Tusculum was flagged five times for offsides in the match.

The Pioneers will visit fifth-ranked Limestone on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 4 p.m. The Saints entered the day atop the SAC standings at 6-0-0 in league play and 8-0-2 overall.
